Cranberry Township police officials have issued due process on a local man for a hit-and-run incident last month.

Jeffrey Wayne Townsend, of 507 Brandywine Drive, allegedly hit Napoleon Garcia Diaz with his Chevrolet Traverse June 17. According to an affidavit of probable cause written by Sgt. Matthew Irvin, after the collision, the victim walked to his residence, leaving his bike on Robinhood Drive. Garcia Diaz sustained 14 fractured ribs, different soft-tissue injuries and a laceration to his chest, which required surgery and two chest tubes.

He was flown by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital for further evaluation and surgery.

Garcia Diaz told officers that a vehicle had struck him and continued driving. Three witnesses confirmed the victim’s statement.

On July 13, Townsend’s vehicle was located near his residence.

According to the affidavit, Townsend “reported not recalling anything from [the accident]" and that he "had taken medication and Ambien.”
