[naviga:h3]SRU’s Martin earns PSAC’s top honor[/naviga:h3]

LOCK HAVEN — Slippery Rock University graduate and All-Ameriocan defensive end Marcus Martin has been selected as one of the two Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year awardees by vote of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s sports information directors.

Martin carried a 3.56 grade point average as a safety management major. He is three-time Super Region 1 Defensive Player of the Year, owns the college football career quarterback sack record and led all of NCAA Division II with 15.5 sacks and 26.5 tackles for loss last season.

Martin was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as a preferred free agent at fullback this off-season.

Indiana (Pa.) University volleyball standout Natalie Cignetti, carrying a 4.0 GPA, was the other Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

[naviga:h3]Butler 10-under stars out of tourney[/naviga:h3]

BUTLER TWP — The Butler Township 10-under all-stars were eliminated from the District 25 tournament by an 11-5 loss to Titusville.

Jordan Vicari had a triple and double along with striking out six of the 10 batters he faced. Jake Szebalskie had three singles, Nash Cuffman two singles and Kane Krauchak a single.
