8:52 a.m. Sunday — Hunter Peterman, 18, of Fenelton was hurt when the vehicle he was driving rear-ended another vehicle on Whitestown Road at Acre Avenue. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with apparent minor injuries.

The other driver, Nancy Jennings, 70, of Butler, was stopped and waiting to turn when the accident happened. She was not hurt. Both vehicles had to be towed.

Police cited Peterman for driving at an unsafe speed.

12:10 a.m. Sunday — Joshua Space, 25, of Butler was injured when he crashed and rolled his car on Route 8 south at the Burger King restaurant. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with a suspected minor injury. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Police said Space lost control of his northbound car while rounding a left curve near Ann Arbor Lane and slid sideways across both southbound lanes and hit a curb. The vehicle rolled over several times and came to rest against the restaurant. The building sustained minor damage.

According to a police report, Space is facing charges of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, accidents involving damage to unattended property, driving at an unsafe speed and disregarding traffic lanes.

11:09 a.m. July 3 — Vehicles driven by Kathy Burkett, 54, and Jessica Evans, 24, both of Butler collided at Hansen Avenue and Whitestown Road. The accident happened, according to a police report, when Burkett tried to change lanes.

Police cited Burkett for careless driving, failing to carry her vehicle registration card and failing to provide proof of insurance.

10:03 a.m. July 3 — A vehicle driven by Lisa Smith, 56, of Oil City, Venango County, turned left from the right lane on Route 8 at Lowry Street and struck another vehicle.

The other driver, Melissa Heller, 48, of Chicora, was not hurt. Police cited Smith for making an improper turn.

Sunday — Seven people were arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence during a sobriety checkpoint detail from June 6 to 8 in various locations in Butler County.

In all, 148 vehicles were stopped. Police said that in addition to the DUI arrests, they arrested five people on misdemeanor criminal charges, and issued 21 traffic tickets and 19 warnings.

Thursday — Jarratt J. Gooch, 43, of Center Township was charged with driving on alcohol and drugs stemming from a traffic stop last month in Center Township.

Police said they stopped Gooch about 2:50 a.m. June 3 after he crossed over the white fog line on Route 8, near South Benbrook Road. He also drove over the center line two times and made a wide turn onto Mercer Road.

Police said the defendant failed field sobriety testing and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology tests showed he had marijuana in his system and his blood-alcohol level was 0.217 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

Gooch is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, DUI, driving under the influence a combination of drugs and alcohol, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lane and careless driving.

Thursday — James A. Petrigni, 53, of Butler was charged with drugged driving in connection with a May traffic stop in Summit Township. He was stopped about 1:25 a.m. May 26, police said, after troopers spotted him throw a cigarette out the window on the 300 block of Route 356.

He denied taking illicit drugs, according to court documents, but he showed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests. Police took him to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.

Toxicology tests showed he had cocaine, fentanyl and other drugs in his systems.

In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, Petrigni is charged with driving with a suspended license-DUI related, driving without a license, careless driving and littering on a highway.

July 2 — Police charged David S. Perkins, 33, of Butler with intentionally damaging a woman’s vehicle in April during after an apparent disagreement over parking space in Center Township.

Perkins is accused of deliberately slamming his driver’s side door into the victim’s vehicle April 28 at the soccer field parking lot on Palmer Road.

The woman told police that she was parked in her vehicle watching her child’s game when the defendant pulled into the spot next to her. He subsequently asked her to move her vehicle so he could get out of his, according to court documents.

She advised him that she could not because the parking spot was tight. The woman said at that point Perkins became angry and damaged her vehicle.

The defendant told police that he “politely asked” the woman to move her vehicle, but she would not. He said he accidentally struck her door while getting out of his vehicle.

Perkins is charged with a second-degree misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.

1:30 a.m. June 24 — Adam R. Schnur, 32, of Saxonburg was stopped for a traffic violation on Meridian Road in Saxonburg, police said, and subsequently arrested for drunken driving.

In addition to DUI, he is charged with failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and reckless driving.

June 21 — Amy S. Vibbert, 47, of Brady Township was charged with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop earlier in the month on Brady Township. She was pulled over about 1:30 a.m. June 9 for driving outside her lane on Route 8 near Hall Road, police said.

She also allegedly threw a lit cigarette out her window.

Vibbert failed field sobriety testing and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, according to court documents, which showed she had marijuana in her system.

Police said they also found a suspected marijuana cigarette in her purse. The joint was inside a red container that resembled a shotgun shell.

She is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving an unregistered vehicle, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving, littering on a highway and failing to immediately notify authorities of a change of address.

4 a.m. Saturday — An unknown burglar stole a piece of lumber after breaking into a garage at the home of a 45-year-old Templeton man. Police said the investigation continues.

June 29 — The state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement cited Cenci’s Cranberry in Cranberry Township for violating the state liquor law between Oct. 24 and May 17 by allegedly failing to maintain required records.

An administrative law judge will hear the case.
