CRANBERRY TWP — Marburger Farm Dairy and Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau are partnering to raise awareness about the importance of buying local.

Representatives will be selling cartons of Marburger milk for 5 cents Saturday and Sunday at Cranberry Community Days, as well as handing out promotional materials about the significance of local dairies.

Butler County dairies generate $45.7 million in economic value and have created 378 jobs, according to the tourism bureau. There are an estimated 3,400 cows producing 65,000 pounds of milk annually.

“Agriculture is a top industry in Butler County, and when you buy local, you're supporting local businesses, families and the community,” said Jack Cohen, president of the tourism bureau.

The tourism bureau is working with Choose PA Dairy, a joint campaign involving the Center for Dairy Excellence, Pennsylvania Dairymen's Association, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and PA Preferred to educate the public about the year-round availability of local milk, where to buy it and its health benefits.
