Sarver's Norris claims WoO feature

Local driver makes Lernerville history

BUFFALO TWP — Michael Norris has grown accustomed to winning.

But not like this.

The Sarver driver of the No. 72 car earned the pole for Friday night’s 30-lap World of Outlaws Late Model race at Lernerville Speedway and knew what to do with it.

Norris secured his first career WoO Late Model win, leaping on to the roof on his car in victory lane after the race and proudly displaying the checkered flag. He became the second regular Fab Four driver to win a WoO feature at the Sarver oval.

Ed Lynch Jr. captured the Don Martin Memorial WoO Sprint Silver Cup race in 2002.

Devin Moran finished second in the racer as Norris reportedly led the entire way, but was challenged for the lead on a couple of occasions. Moran congratulated him after the race.

Norris won his first Lernerville Late Model points championship last season. He has a big lead in his bid to repeat as points champion this season.

With four Fab Four feature wins already in his pocket in 2018, Norris has 232 points, good for a whopping 64-point lead over Ken Schaltenbrand.

Norris had a solid showing in Thursday night’s WoO feature at Lernerville, starting 16th and finishing sixth. His win Friday was worth $6,000.

Chris Madden claimed third place Friday night. Brandon Sheppard was fourth and Mike Martar took home fifth.

Alex Ferree of Saxonburg started 16th and wound up 15th. Chub Frank took 22nd and Jared Miley — who earned an automatic starting spot last week — wound up 23rd.

The 12th annual Firecracker 100, a 100-lap feature paying $30,000 to win, takes place Saturday night at Lernerville.
