Graduates

Jeanna Sybert

Jeanna Sybert of Middlesex Township was awarded Bachelor of Arts degrees in communication and rhetoric and political science from the University of Pittsburgh. She graduated summa cum laude.

She received the Dean's Award from the Honors College and was named a University Scholar for placing in the top 2 percent in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. She was a Dean's List student for eight terms and was a two-time recipient of the Brackenridge Research Fellowship. She also minored in film and media studies.

While at Pitt, Sybert was president of the Omicron Psi chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the communication studies honorary society; secretary of the American Association of University Women; campus outreach director for the Pitt College Democrats; a member of Pitt Public Debate Society; coach and tutor at the Oral Communication Lab; participant in the Emerging Leaders Program and Make a Difference Day; and an undergraduate teaching assistant.

She gave the presentation “A Symbol of the Horrors in Aleppo” on news coverage of the war in Syria at the conferences of the Eastern Communication Association, Mid-Atlantic Popular and American Culture Association, and Kristeva Circle.

Sybert has accepted a position as a graduate assistant at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where she will enter the doctoral program at Penn's Annenberg School for Communication.

The 2014 Mars High School graduate received the Rich-Mar Rotary Scholarship and the William and Maxine Block Scholarship (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).

She is the daughter of Donna and Steve Sybert of Middlesex Township.

Lauren Gray received a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, 1858 W. Grandview Blvd., Erie.She will intern at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center followed by a diagnostic radiology residency.She was a 2011 graduate of Butler High School and a 2014 graduate of Slippery Rock University.She is the daughter of Jim and Lisa Gray of Butler.
