'The Walking Dead' gets fresh look and feel in 9th season

As “The Walking Dead” works toward the start of its 9th season, coming in October, Danai Gurira as Michonne will be returning.

“The Walking Dead” is jumping forward.

The AMC zombie show will include a time jump in its upcoming season, new showrunner Angela Kang confirmed at a press event Wednesday, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The current timeline in creator Robert Kirkman’s comic book series on which the show is based skips two years after the war between Rick and Negan, but it’s unclear if “The Walking Dead” will follow the same pattern.

“We’re working on a season that has a really fresh look and feel,” Kang said. “We come in on some pretty fun stuff. I’m really focusing a lot on the core character relationships in the show that have kind of been long-lasting, as well as all of our wonderful series regulars.”

What the newly installed boss didn’t touch on, however, is star Andrew Lincoln’s rumored departure. The 44-year-old actor, who plays ringleader Rick Grimes, is expected to appear in just a few episodes of the ninth season before making his exit. AMC has not confirmed the speculation.

Kang, who joined the show in season 2, took over as showrunner for Scott Gimple in April.

“The Walking Dead” returns in October.
