Cape Cod indie rock band in concert series

The band Cape Cod featuring, from top, Danny Santoro, David Thompson, Seth Dillon and Alex Barnhart, will perform Friday downtown for the Diehl Automotive concert series.

The indie rock band Cape Cod will perform at 6 p.m. Friday at the Butler Health System Stage at the intersection of Main and Locust streets downtown.

This and other Friday concerts are part of the Diehl Automotive concert series through Aug. 31.

Cape Cod features Alex Barnhart on guitar and lead vocals, Danny Santoro on bass guitar, and David Thompson on drums and vocals. Seth Dillon is joining the band for Friday's performance, playing lead guitar.

The band members are all Butler High School graduates. Life took them in different directions after graduation, but they remained close and continued to play music together. Today, the band plays several shows a month, mainly in the Pittsburgh area.

“We're a Pittsburgh-based band,” said Barnhart. “But it's nice to come back and play in Butler, where it all began for us. Plus it's Family Night (for the concert series) so hopefully we'll see a lot of our old friends in the audience.”

The band creates unique indie rock that blends elements of alternative rock, surf pop, post-punk revival, and college rock. The music balances structural simplicity and high levels of carefully woven musicality. Their music has a solid rhythmic foundation that is layered with melodic guitar work.

The band recently released “The Marie EP” with four songs. The EP is available online, and the band plans to play the songs at the Friday show.

Admission is free. Food and beverages will be available.

Other concerts in the series include:
