The Butler School District’s new website, which launched Wednesday, is designed to make information that is most important to students, parents and staff easily accessible.

“We’re launching on Wednesday,” said Kara Droney, district communications director, who previewed the site during Monday’s school board meeting.

A fall survey of students, parents and staff found that they want easy access to a staff directory, events calendar, grades, student photographs, resources for parents and students, and lunch menus, Droney said.

During the preview she demonstrated how a staff directory, events calendar and lunch menus can be quickly accessed from the home page.

The boxes that users click to obtain information can be changed, she said.

“I look at a website as always a work in progress,” Droney said.

The staff directory eventually will include profiles, and teachers and principals can attach photos of themselves. Droney said the profiles will be completed before the 2018-19 school year begins, she said.

Teachers will have unlimited storage capacity for files and photos, she said.

An app making the site accessible from mobile phones and tables will be available.

The site will have links to several social media sites, a use and page view tracker and a translator for non-English speaking residents, she said.

Students and parents will be able to access grades and assignments through a secure system, which requires a login, through the new site.

The athletic department will continue to have a separate site that can be reached through a link, she said.

The existing website has been in use since 2014.
