June 5 — A Chester County man was charged with assaulting another man during an altercation last month at a home on Franklin Street.

Tyler B. Trommelen, 22, of Landenberg is accused of causing a disturbance at the victim’s home May 25 during which the defendant knocked over tables set up for a yard sale. He also allegedly confronted the homeowner, who was in a travel trailer with his family, court documents said.

During the altercation, the victim grabbed a firearm and told Trommelen to leave. But at some point, the defendant charged at the homeowner, causing the victim to lose his balance and break the thumb on his right hand, which was holding the gun.

But the homeowner managed to use his left hand and feet to get the defendant onto the ground and overtake him, documents said. The victim held the suspect at bay until police arrived.

At the station, documents said, Trommelen admitted that he had been drinking alcohol that night. He said he was walking back to a hotel where he was staying when he happened upon the victim’s home. He blamed the altercation on a misunderstanding.
