Freeport student wins theatre award

MIDLAND, Beaver County — For her performance in Freeport High School’s “The Addams Family” in the spring, Halle Surgil won the Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Wednesday Addams.

Part of the awards for the Best Actress and Best Actor (won by Noah Tobery from Big Beaver Falls High School) is to travel to New York City as nominees at The Jimmy Awards.

Now Surgil and other award winners from across the country will gather Monday through June 25, wrapping up their time in the Big Apple at the Minskoff Theatre.

Nominees will prepare for their debut on a Broadway stage during a nine-day professional training intensive with NYU Tisch School of the Arts’ New Studio on Broadway faculty members plus other theatre professionals. Winners will be selected by a panel of industry experts.

The Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards, a program of Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, are a celebration of outstanding student achievement in high school musical theatre in Butler, Beaver and Lawrence counties.
