Butler City is asking for money to do a flood prevention project from Butler County Infrastructure Bank.

A multimillion dollar tunnel in Cranberry Township and fixing the Sullivan Run flooding issue could be funded by the new Butler County Infrastructure Bank. Here are some of the projects being considered:

-- $4.5 million toward a $15 million MSA Thruway project in Cranberry Township;

-- $1.2 million to complete sewer improvement work in Cranberry Township;

-- $470,000 for Butler to do a flood control project on Sullivan Run;

-- $1 million to improve street lighting in Butler;

-- $350,00 for a West Sunbury borough sewer project; and

-- $488,000 for Marion Township for planning and permitting costs associated with sewer renovation for Boyers borough.

These projects are the first to be considered by the newly-established Infrastructure Bank, which was started last year. The bank uses money from natural gas drilling impact fees received by the county to help municipalities apply for subsidized, low-interest loans to provide collateral and cover the municipality's payments to the lender supplying the main funds for a project.

Proposals heard Friday will be considered and recommendations will be made to the Butler County Commissioners, with announcement of award winners at their July public meeting.
