Police find 38 lbs of pot during traffic stop

A Cranberry Township man is facing charges for allegedly having 38 pounds of pot in Westmoreland County.

YOUNGWOOD, Westmoreland County — A Cranberry Township man is being held on $200,000 bond in Westmoreland County for allegedly possessing 38 pounds of marijuana.

According to documents filed Tuesday by Greensburg police, Giovanni Omar Baassiri, 34, is charged with felony manufacturing, delivering or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver marijuana, as well as a misdemeanor charge and two traffic offenses following an incident that took place Tuesday afternoon.

According to the complaint, officers made a traffic stop after seeing a vehicle not use a turn signal to change lanes and proceed to follow another vehicle too closely.

Officers allegedly smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, being driven by Baassiri. He told officers there was nothing in the vehicle, and would not consent to a search, the complaint states.

A K9 unit was called to the scene, and alerted officers to something in the vehicle.
