No sewage plant here

As the Butler Eagle has reported in the past, the Connoquenessing Township supervisors are trying to take part of our property on Dick Road beside Little Connoquenessing Creek for a sewage treatment plant. We have had this sword hanging over our heads for more than 2 years and have been forced to spend thousands on lawyers and on an engineer.

There are other, more suitable locations if they are determined to build a plant. However we do not think a plant is necessary for this small township. We could easily hook into the plant in Evans City or Butler.

The supervisors continue to maintain that our property is the most cost effective even though our engineer pointed out that they have significantly underestimated the cost of building on our property and overestimated the cost of hooking into Evans City.

The area where they want to build here is a wetland and a flood plane and is home to hundreds of species of wildlife. We own 70 acres and have left the land in our will to the Humane Society Wildlife Trust. We put a conservation easement in our deed, which should prevent development.

We do not want the smell, noise, light and other disruption of living beside a sewage treatment plant, but more important than that, we think the land must be preserved for the future.
