New face joins DA's office

Robert Zanella recently joined the Butler County District Attorney's Office as an assistant district attorney.

The Butler County District Attorney's Office recently added a new face to the county prosecutors roster, filling a vacant position following the termination of a former assistant district attorney

Robert M. Zanella Jr. joined the office on May 14, and will be handling prosecution of cases in courtroom 2, in front of Judge William Shaffer.

Zanella is a graduate of Knoch High School, a 2014 graduate of Duquesne University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government and a 2017 graduate of Villanova University School of Law. He previously worked for law firm Lutz & Pawk in Butler before joining the district attorney's office.

District Attorney Richard Goldinger said he believes Zanella will be a great fit for the office and help combat crime in Butler County.

“Robert is young, energetic and intelligent,” he said. “We know him because he interned with this office. While here, he actually prosecuted a trial and won, so we have had some experience with him before.”

Zanella said he looks forward to being a prosecutor. as it is “what I've always wanted to be.”

The Butler County native said he is excited to learn about criminal procedure and help make the community safer.

Zanella now occupies the vacant position previously held by Richard Bosco, who was formally removed from his position May 1 after being placed on suspension.

Goldinger declined to discuss the reasoning behind the suspension and termination, saying, “it is my policy to not comment on disciplinary matters within my office.”

Bosco had worked in the district attorney's office since 2009.
