Driver suffers'major injuries'in Donegal crash
DONEGAL TWP — Police said speed was a factor in an accident Friday night that left a driver with “major injuries” after a wreck on Gameland Road near Chicora just before 9 p.m.
“The vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons, struck the embankment in front of 929 Gameland Road, the car careened onto the driver's side, struck the embankment again and rolled over numerous times,” said state police Cpl. Mike Lewis.
The car ended up in a neighbor's yard. There were no other people involved in the one-vehicle accident.
“Speed was definitely a factor,” Lewis added.
The driver, a man about 55 years old, was unresponsive when he was loaded into the medical helicopter for a flight to UPMC-Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
Lewis said there was no indication of alcohol use by the driver. Chicora Fire Chief Cody Craig said the driver was still in the vehicle when rescuers arrived.
