10:29 a.m. May 17 — Melissa M. Ofchinick, 43, of Butler was found with suspected drug contraband at the office of District Judge William Fullerton on West Cunningham Street.

Police said a state constable had taken her to the office for arraignment when she turned over a crack pipe stuffed with copper scrubber that she had in one of her pockets.

Ofchinick is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

May 16 — Police obtained a felony arrest warrant for Jamie C. Wright, 42, no known address, on charges he stole a woman’s sport utility vehicle from her apartment on Cecelia Street.

The alleged victim told police that Wright was helping her take items from the 2011 Kia Sorento into her home about 9:10 p.m. Tuesday. At some point, according to court documents, the woman noticed both her vehicle and the defendant were gone.

She texted Wright to return the vehicle. He texted her back that he would, police said, but he did not.

Wright is charged with theft of a vehicle, a felony.

May 18 — Jacob A. Herrin, 22, of Butler was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop last month in the 200 block of New Castle Road. Police said he was stopped shortly after 4 a.m. April 28 for swerving.

Herrin is charged with driving under the influence, disregarding traffic lanes and driving with an open container of alcohol.

May 17 — Roshelle R. Emrick, 49, of East Butler was arrested on a felony shoplifting charge in connection with an incident earlier this month at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.

Police said store surveillance video allegedly showed Emrick about 1:50 p.m. May 13 fail to scan 17 items valued at $143.21 while using a self-checkout register.

Emrick, who was four prior shoplifting convictions, according to court documents, was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft. She remains free on her own recognizance.

May 16 — Jessica L. Lewis, 46, of Butler Township was charged with shoplifting with an 11-year-old child earlier this month at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Police said Lewis about 5:50 p.m. May 5 was caught allegedly failing to scan 44 items totaling $196 using a self-checkout register.

The defendant, according to court documents, had the child place the merchandise for which she had not paid into shopping bags.

Lewis is charged with misdemeanor counts of corruption of a minor and retail theft.

12:10 p.m. May 15 — An unknown driver did not stop after his tractor-trailer struck the back of a street sweeper on Interstate 80 in Clinton Township, Venango County. The crash sent the street sweeper spinning but the driver, Ryan J. Cyphert, 34, of Oil City, was not injured.

Grove City Police

11:30 p.m. Tuesday — A Butler County man was arrested on charges he broke into an apartment in the 500 block of South Center Street and assaulted a woman.

The defendant, Elijah H. Stewart, 20, of Marion Township, allegedly climbed through a window at the home, according to a police report, and got into a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend.

He was arraigned on charges of burglary, trespass and simple assault. He was placed in the to Mercer County Jail on $25,000 bail following arraignment.

May 16 — Police charged a teenage detainee with assaulting another detainee last month at the Western PA Child Care juvenile detention facility on Route 38 in Allegheny Township.

The defendant, 18-year-old Ethan N. Rosa about 8 a.m. April 17 allegedly punched the juvenile victim several times and shoved him into a shower hook, cutting the boy’s head, according to court documents.

Police said Rosa and another detainee, a boy, then stomped on the victim. The boy accused in the altercation, documents said, admitted that he and Rosa attacked the victim in the bathroom over an argument that began during breakfast.

Rosa is charged with simple assault and harassment.

May 16 — Joei R. Campbell, 27, of Butler was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop earlier this month in Center Township. Police said they stopped her car about 2:45 a.m. May 11 after it crossed the white fog line at least four times on Route 8.

Campbell failed field sobriety tests and was taken for a breath test that showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.126 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition to driving under the influence, she is charged with disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and failing to notify authorities of a change of address.
