Coleman sentenced on earlier DUI case
David R. Coleman, 50, of Butler, who police said lead officers on a chase through Butler Township March 30, was sentenced this week for another case from January.
Coleman was sentenced to 6 months of probation on charges of misdemeanor DUI and summary driving on a suspended license.
He was also ordered to pay court cost and $500 in fines, complete 60 hours of community service, attend the Alcohol Highway Safety School, the Victim Impact Panel and complete the county litter pickup program.
Coleman was charged with DUI and summary traffic violations after a traffic stop at North Monroe and Kittanning streets Jan. 19. He pleaded guilty April 23.
State police filed the charges after Coleman’s vehicle was pulled over for making an illegal turn. Field sobriety tests indicated impairment, according to court documents, and police took him to the barracks for a breath test. He recorded a blood-alcohol level of 0.089 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
Coleman awaits formal arraignment June 5 on charges of felony aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude police, misdemeanor counts of child endangerment, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest and a list of other traffic violations after an incident March 30 that began when he allegedly ran a stop sign at South Chestnut and West Diamond streets and ended on Whitestown Road where police said he rammed a trooper’s cruiser after leading police on a chase.
