3 county teams enter robotics competition

Three Butler County teams were among the 68 entries in National Robotics League’s 2018 National Competition last weekend at California University of Pennsylvania.

The robots face off head-to-head in gladiator-style battles in an arena. Students control their robots using a remote control.

Perpetual Motion from Butler Senior High School and Rising Sun from Moniteau High School were among the teams tied for 33rd place. Both teams won one game and lost twice.

STORM from Butler County Community College’s Robotics Club finished tied for 49th place.

Cerberus from Pine-Richland High School was crowned champion of the double elimination tournament, finishing with a 7-0 record.

The Butler County schools qualified for the tournament by competing in the Southwestern Pennsylvania BotsIQ preliminary competitions March 8 at BC3 and March 16 and 17 at Westmoreland County Community College. The regional finals were held April 13 and 14 at California University.
