PNC closing Main Street branch in August

The PNC Bank at 106 S. Main St. will close on Aug. 17.

PITTSBURGH — The PNC Bank at 106 S. Main St. is the only branch closing in southwestern Pennsylvania as the corporation evaluates its network of branches.

Marcey Zwiebel, PNC spokesman, said the branch will close at 3 p.m. on Aug. 17.

All accounts will be transferred to the Clearview Mall PNC branch, Zwiebel said. Customers can continue to use any of PNC's 2,400 branch offices.

The decision to close the branch was the result of a PNC project to evaluate its branches to look at usage.

“The way customers are using branches has really been changing in recent years,” Zwiebel said.

She said customers are using more convenient channels than the South Main Street branch.

“We want to make sure we are meeting the customers how and where they want to be met,” Zwiebel said.

The PNC automated teller machine around the corner on New Castle Street will remain open, she said.

Per PNC policy, Zwiebel could not divulge how many employees the branch has or whether they will be offered jobs in other branches.

“When we consolidate, we do our very best to place the employees impacted by the consolidation,” she said.

She said PNC advises customers of a branch closing 90 days in advance, which is why the South Main Street branch will close in August.

It is the only branch to close in August, Zwiebel said.
