July 25, Aug. 1 and 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, Brady Township

Children, age 9 to 12, will be introduced to the geology in the county's three state parks. The cost is $10 per session. Registration is required; call 724-794-6011.

July 27, 8 to 10:30 p.m. Pleasant Valley Boat Launch, South Shore, Moraine State Park 225 Pleasant Valley Road

Paddlers will explore the lake during the full moon. A limited number of kayaks are available. This program is for participants age 12 and older; minors must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required; call 724-368-8811.

[naviga:h3]Bats in Action[/naviga:h3]

July 28, 8 to 10 p.m. Mount Zion Baptist Church Moraine State Park 2251 Prospect Road, Prospect

Participants will meet Moraine's park naturalist to see a bat condo in action and learn more about these, often misunderstood, creatures. Participants should take blankets, chairs, flashlights and bug protection. No registration is required.

July 29, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Watt's Bay, North Shore Moraine State Park 225 Pleasant Valley Road

Adults and children together will learn basic fishing skills like knot tying, casting, baiting the hook and taking a fish off the hook. Participants can fish without a license. Equipment will be provided by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Reservations are required; call 724-368-8811.

Aug. 3, 1 to 3 p.m. Lakeview Pavilion No. 4, Lakeview Beach, North Shore, Moraine State Park 225 Pleasant Valley Road

Hide-N-Seekers “Wildlife Buffet” will be held on three Fridays, Aug. 3, 10 and 17. Children, age 4 and 5, will learn about animals and the food they eat through hands-on activities, a senses hike, participation in a play, singing songs and crafts. Aug. 3 will feature “What's Wild” and “Senses Hike.” Children should take two stuffed animals. The cost for the program is $15. Registration is required; call 724-368-8811.

Aug. 4, 2 to 4 p.m.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, Brady Township

Participants will join a guided, 90-minute walk discussing the plants, animals, history and geology of the prairie. This program is free.

Aug. 10, 1 to 3 p.m. Lakeview Pavilion No. 4, Lakeview Beach North Shore, Moraine State Park 225 Pleasant Valley Road

Hide-N-Seekers “Wildlife Buffet” is for children, age 4 and 5. Aug. 10 will feature “The Plant-N-Me” and “Chewy Choices.” The cost for the program is $15. Registration is required; call 724-368-8811.

[naviga:h3]Muddy Creek Oil Well exhibit[/naviga:h3]

Aug. 11, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Moraine State Park 195 Park Road, Prospect

Visitors can see a restored oil well in operation. The Muddy Creek Oil Well is the restoration site of an antique oil well. The Bessemer Gas Engine and Marshall-Barr No. 19 oil well equipment is restored and open for visitors.

[naviga:h3]Salamander Safari[/naviga:h3]

Aug. 11, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Hells Hollow Trail parking lot, McConnells Mill State Park, 2716 McConnells Mill Road, Portersville

Participants will search for salamanders and other critters in their habitat. Participants should pack sturdy hiking shoes and water shoes to slip on at the stream. No registration is required.

Aug. 17, 1 to 3 p.m. Lakeview Pavilion No. 4, Lakeview Beach North Shore, Moraine State Park 225 Pleasant Valley Road

Hide-N-Seekers “Wildlife Buffet” will be held for children, age 4 and 5. Aug. 17 will feature “Seed Need” and “Lunch for a Bear.” The cost for the program is $15. Registration is required; call 724-368-8811.

Aug. 18, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., McDanels Boat Launch, North Shore, Moraine State Park 225 Pleasant Valley Road

During this nature-based paddle, participants will learn some basic kayak tips, set off to explore some of the lake's inlets and learn about the lake and its wildlife. This program is for those age 12 and older, and minors must be accompanied by an adult. Kayaks and gear will be provided. Registration is required; call 724-368-8811.

Aug. 18, 1 to 3 p.m., Kildoo Pavilion, McConnells Mill State Park, 2716 McConnells Mill Road, Portersville

Participants will join Moraine's park naturalist to learn about the owls that prowl the night woods in Pennsylvania. Taking a flashlight is recommended. Dress for the weather. Registration is not required.
