Kicking at police results in jail term

Matthew Walker

A Butler man was sentenced to county jail Thursday after being charged with trying to kick a police officer during a traffic stop in November.

Matthew J. Walker, 24, was sentenced to 6 to 12 months in Butler County Prison.

Police said Walker was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over for spinning tires at a traffic light at West Cunningham and Pillow streets. The vehicle pulled into the Huddle Bar parking lot, when police said the driver, identified as Maxwell J. Bowers, 26, got out and ran away.

Walker also got out of the vehicle and started walking toward the police car, when officers ordered him back into the Jeep but he refused. He then took off running east on West Cunningham Street, police said.

He was arrested in a nearby apartment building, but when placed into the patrol car, he began to kick the door and window, documents said, as well as trying to kick officers.

A warrant was issued for Bowers, but he has yet to be located.

A full story will appear in the Butler Eagle.
