Harmony native performed in Navy band for Fleet Week

Musician 2nd Class Kohl Blint, as a percussionist for the Commander Navy Region Southeast Band “Pride,” played recently for Fleet Week Port Everglades.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Musician 2nd Class Kohl Blint, percussionist for the Commander Navy Region Southeast Band “Pride” entertained large audiences throughout Broward County recently during Fleet Week Port Everglades.

Fleet Week Port Everglades provided an opportunity for the citizens of South Florida to witness first-hand the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services and gain a better understanding of how the U.S. sea services support the national defense.

Blint, a native of Harmony, is the percussionist for the band. He began playing music in the fourth grade and continued in music programs throughout high school and college.

He graduated from Seneca Valley High School in 2010 and attended Slippery Rock University, earning a bachelor of arts in music performance. He then went to graduate school at Queens College in New York, earning a master’s of music in jazz studies in 2015.

Inspired by his grandfather, who was a Seabee, Blint joined the Navy in 2016.

Since then, Blint has performed for audiences at several Navy Fleet Week events including New Orleans and New York.

Blint plans to stay in the Navy for as long as possible. His future goals include college level teaching at a university and getting promoted to petty officer second class.
