Emergency responders are diverting traffic from Route 19, after a traffic light reportedly fell and damaged vehicles on St. Francis Way.

CRANBERRY TWP — Two traffic light poles and signals fell at the intersection of Route 19 and St. Francis Way around lunchtime, causing damages to several vehicles and closing the road in both directions.

Sgt. Chuck Mascellino, Cranberry Township Police, said it appears that a pole at the southeast corner of the intersection collapsed and the cable for the traffic light caught on the bed of a small dump truck that was passing underneath. As the truck went forward, it pulled tight on the cable and pulled the pole on the southwest corner down as well.

Route 19 is closed between Freedom Road and St. Francis Way. Police expected it to be reopened as soon as the roadway can be cleared, and traffic will likely be controlled by crews.

Temporary traffic signals will be installed as soon as they arrive in the township, Mascellino said.
