Man sentenced in stabbing case

Justin Woods
2 men fought in store parking lot

A Butler man involved in a parking lot fight that left one man stabbed was placed into the county Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program Friday.

Justin D. Woods, 21, was ordered to complete three years of probation as part of the program on charges of felony aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person by Butler County President Judge Thomas Doerr. He also was ordered to pay court costs, complete 100 hours of community service and any recommended counseling or treatment.

Woods was charged by Butler Township police after an incident outside of Walmart, 400 Butler Commons, Butler Township, just after midnight on April 28, 2017.

Police said Woods stabbed another person, Alex Dorenkamp of Chicora, during a fight in the parking lot.

The fight allegedly began following an incident the previous night between the two men, who then met by chance at the store, police said.

Dorenkamp apparently believed Woods had run his girlfriend off the road in Butler in a traffic incident, authorities said. Woods denied the accusation, saying the incident involved him asking out Dorenkamp's girlfriend. He said he did not know at the time that she and Dorenkamp were a couple.

During the fight, Dorenkamp allegedly punched Woods and slammed him into a wall. Woods admitted that he pulled a knife and stabbed Dorenkamp, and then called 911 to report the stabbing, police said.

When police got to the store, they found Dorenkamp lying in the parking lot bleeding, several parking spaces away from the front of the store's grocery entrance. Dorenkamp needed hospital treatment for a knife wound to the stomach, authorities said. Woods suffered minor injuries to the head, face and arms. Police seized the alleged weapon, which they described as an 8-inch folding knife with a 3-inch serrated blade.

Woods was later released after posting $5,000 bail.
