Mars baseball deals Blackhawk 1st loss of season

Tyler Kowalkowski had two singles and knocked in four runs Wednesday as Mars closed its baseball regular season with an 8-6 win at Blackhawk.

The Planets, who tied for second in section play, handed the Cougars their first loss of the year. Frank Craska was the winning pitcher.

Slippery Rock 2, Hickory 0 — Ricky Mineo picked up the win on the mound and also helped himself with an RBI triple as the Rockets blanked the Hornets.

David Duffalo went 3-for-3 with three singles for Slippery Rock (8-6, 6-4).

Four Karns City players homered Wednesday as the Gremlins rolled past Union, 17-3.

Emoly Wolfe, Mackenzie Dunn, Kate Allen and Emily Huff hit round-trippers for KC (17-3). Wolfe had three RBI in the contest.

Slippery Rock 8, Hickory 3 — The Rockets improved their record to 11-4 on Tuesday.

Hannah Wilson singled and tripled, Brynn Horner singled and doubled and Ayslyn Duffy added a triple to lead the Rocket offense.

Cheyenne Hindman was the winning pitcher.

Track and Field

Moniteau's Jake Patton broke a pair of records last weekend at the Oil City Invitational. He snapped his own record by running the 110-meter hurdles in 14.81 seconds.

He broke the school record in the 300-meter hurdles — set by Zack Thompson in 2006 — by running a 39.82.

Moniteau's Cambrie Campbell won the javelin with a toss of 133 feet, 7 inches and the discus with a throw of 105 feet. She was second in the shot put.

Other Warrior placers in the meet were Ryan Heller (2nd in shot put), James Parenti (2nd in discus), Kyle Norling (3rd in pole vault), Steven Fawcett (4th in 800) and Ethan McDevitt (4th in 300 hurdles, 5th in high jump).
