The Butler-based folk/country band, Appalachian Doom Gospel will celebrate the release of its debut record, “Little Blue EP,” with a party Saturday at the Butler Art Center.

Members of the band include Zach Reed, slide guitar and vocals; Cody Clark, guitar and vocals; Abe Zito, washboard; David Beck, bass and guitar on “Scarlet Sin;” Laurel Wain, vocals; Ian Compton, trumpet; and Dan Lafferty, drummer (Nic Temple recorded drums on the EP).

All the songs were written by Appalachian Doom Gospel. Primary songwriters of the group are Reed and Clark. The lyrics to “Scarlet Sin” were written by Shannon McCarren.

“After we began writing, the tone never changed,” said guitarist and songwriter Clark. “Always have fun, always stay honest to ourselves and always remember that no matter how things are in our material lives, we had each other. We always had the Doom Gospel to relieve the woes of the world and that’s what kept me going.”

Songs on the extended play recording include “Untitled (Grandma’s Song),” “Smooth Talker,” “Little Blue (Interlude),” “Please” and “Scarlet Sin (Shannon’s Song).”

“This band has been a family since the beginning, and I believe the songs reflect that,” said bass guitarist David Beck.

“We sing together like a choir, play together like we’ve known each other our whole lives, and harness the spirit of love and life in every step we take.”

The release party will also feature performances from Dave Ziggy of Cleveland and Matt Pless of Baltimore, along with local bands Good Old Ernie, and Lem.

The party is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Butler Art Center, 344 S. Main St., and a portion of the proceeds from the show will benefit renovations at the Art Center, including revamping the basement into a music venue to nurture the local music and arts community.
