Freeport softball rallies for win

Claire Crytzer hit a two-run home run to tie the game in the top of the seventh and Maya Borghol and Jenna Manke drove in runs in the top of the ninth to lead Freeport to the section title outright in a 5-3 win Thursday over Deer Lakes.

The Yellowjackets (12-0, 10-0) trailed 3-1 before Crytzer's heroic blast.

Borghol then drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth and Manke followed with a RBI double to give Freeport some breathing room.

It's the first section title for the Yellowjackets in 18 years.

Ashleigh Schmidt tossed three scoreless innings of relief to get the win.

Seneca Valley 10, Butler 0 — Claire Zimmerman tossed a five-inning no-hitter and Maura Pasquale homered to lead the Raiders (10-5, 7-3).

Karli Hacker and Alex Pfab each doubled and singled.

Boys Lacrosse

Freeport's 12-6 win over Indiana was highlighted by Brennon Riley and Garret Schaffhauser both scoring three goals.

Greg Smith made five saves and allowed two goals during his time in net.

The Yellowjackets improved to 10-4.

Baseball

Knoch 6, Deer Lakes 3 — Knoch scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out this win from Wednesday.

Ethan Sloane tripled, singled and score two runs and Andy Pipes had two RBI in the victory.

Alex Altmire added two hits and Jake Herrit got the win on the mound, striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings of work.
