Mars baseball cruises past Obama, 17-2

Jack Anderson homered, singled and drove in four runs Tuesday as the Mars baseball team blasted Obama Academy, 17-2, in three innings.

The Planets banged out 14 hits. Jon Wetherholt contributed three singles and two RBI, Frank Craska two singles and two RBI.

Central Catholic 3, Butler 2 — The Vikings clinched the section title with this victory at La Roche College. Butler can wrap up second place with a win Thursday over Seneca Valley.

Softball

Tori Radvan tossed a one-hitter Tuesday as Freeport remained unbeaten with a 4-0 victory over Burrell. The Yellowjackets are 10-0 overall, 8-0 in section play.

Freeport managed only three hits itself. Ally DeJidas had a single and scored two runs, Claire Crytzer had a single and RBI, Emily Schmidt a single.

North Allegheny 6, Seneca Valley 1 — Claire Zimmerman had a double and two singles for the Raiders, who stranded 13 runners in the game and surrendered four runs in the first inning.

Mason Nolan won the shot put and discus, Hunter Jones the 200 and 400 meters Tuesday as Karns City's boys defeated Cranberry, 100-50.

Karns City's girls won, 102-38, as Rebecca Pennington won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters and Sara Knox claimed the shot put, discus and javelin.
