Knappenberger, Knoch softball shut down Butler, 4-1

Celia Knappenberger scattered four hits over seven innings, striking out six as Knoch downed Butler, 4-1, in a non-section softball clash Monday afternoon.

Erin Luffy and Chalee Durand each had RBI singles for the Knights (9-4).

McKenna Negley had a pair of doubles and a RBI for Butler (5-8).

Emily Huff singled twice and drove in a run for Karns City.

Slippery Rock 9, Hickory 2 — Cheyenne Hindman singled and tripled and Julianna Hutchinson had two doubles and a single for the Rockets.

Hindman was also the winning pitcher.

Ayslyn Duffy added a double and a single for Slippery Rock (7-4).

Baseball

Cam Blair went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI to lead Karns City to an 8-2 road win over Clarion.

Tyler Yough picked up with win, striking out six in six innings of work.

Slippery Rock 12, Grove City 6 (Game 1) — In a game suspended from April 11, Chase Wilkerson got the win, working three innings of relief of Ricky Mineo, who started the game and struck out nine in three innings.

Ryan Davis hit a grand slam and also doubled for the Rockets.

Eliza Drohan scored five goals, but Butler fell to North Allegheny, 18-12.

Chloe Wertz added four goals, Karolyn Miller two goals and Kate Quinlan also scored for the Golden Tornado.

Boys Lacrosse

Freeport scored three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter for a 13-10 win over Plum.

Garret Schaffhauser scored five goals to lead the Yellowjackets.

Sean Fennel added two goals for Freeport (9-4, 1-1).
