Woman and child injured in accident with utility pole

A mother and her baby were treated for minor injuries, but believed to be OK, after their SUV went head-on into a utility pole on Saxonburg Road.

SUMMIT TWP — A mother and her baby were treated for minor injuries, but believed to be OK, after their SUV went head-on into a utility pole on Saxonburg Road.

The accident, near the intersection with Green Manor Drive, was reported at 4:12 p.m. and stalled traffic for more than an hour.

Fire officials at the scene said that the Hyundai Tuscon appeared to have veered off the road while traveling northbound and hit the utility pole. The air bags deployed and both occupants were able to get out of the vehicle on their own. The child was secured in a car seat.

The pole was sheared near its base, but did not fall into the street. Utility companies were notified to respond. No power outages were reported.

The Herman Volunteer Fire Company, Butler Ambulance Service, East Butler Ambulance Service and state police responded to the crash.

The identity of the driver was not immediately available from police.
