Butler spikers handle Shaler

Butler's boys volleyball team keeps on rolling.

The Golden Tornado improved to 11-1 overall, 7-1 in section play Tuesday night with a 3-0 home win over Shaler.

Scores of the match were 25-23, 25-19, 25-10.

Tyler Rankin had three aces and 38 assists for Butler. Nash Bryan had 15 kills and Carson Stein eight digs.

The Tornado travel to Pine-Richland Thursday night.

Boys Lacrosse

Freeport scored the final three goals of the game to defeat Gateway, 9-5, in their section opener Tuesday.

Sean Fennel scored five goals for the Yellowjackets while Garrett Schaffhauser had two goals, Brennon Riley and Gabe Brunck one goal each.

Riley added four assists. Freeport (8-3, 1-0) travels to Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic Wednesday.

Baseball

Slippery Rock 11, Oil City 1 — In this Monday win for the Rockets, Dylan Dingel struck out nine and walked none in six innings to earn the victory.

Dingel and David Duffalo both singled twice and doubled for Slippery Rock (4-3, 2-1).

Emily Wolfe and Mackenzie Dunn each homered and drove in three runs to lead an offensive onslaught for Karns City in a 26-8 win over Forest Area.

Ally McConnell drove in four runs and Kate Allen doubled and tripled for the Gremlins.
