Man given house arrest in DUI case

CHICORA — A Fairview Township man is accused of injuring a woman in a two-vehicle crash while driving with over twice the state's legal limit for alcohol.

Benjamin P. Sinz, 23, was arraigned Wednesday on felony and other charges in connection with the Feb. 17 wreck on the 400 block of Main Street in Chicora.

State police said they were called about 8:35 a.m. for the crash near the Hummingbird Plaza. Troopers found Sinz's overturned pickup truck in the middle of the road.

Police said they also noticed open bottles of alcoholic beverages in the truck.

The other driver, Terri Saylor, was flownto UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.

Sinz also was injured and he was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Sinz on charges of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, a felony, as well as DUI and several traffic violations.

Stoughton ordered the defendant be placed on house arrest and wear a Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor. Sinz was also given a curfew and is not allowed to leave the state.

Sinz's preliminary hearing is set May 1 at Stoughton's office in Chicora.
