[naviga:h3]Fishing derby set for Buffalo Creek[/naviga:h3]

CHICORA — Butler County Parks and Recreation will offer a fishing derby from Tuesday to May 5 on trout-stocked Buffalo Creek at Chicora Community Park on Route 68.

The event is for children and those with special needs. The location will be staffed from 9 a.m. to dusk each day.

Participants should take their own fishing equipment. A few fishing rods will be available to borrow.

[naviga:h3]Apple tree pests topic of first class[/naviga:h3]

BUTLER TWP — Master Gardener Dennis Culley will present “Apple Tree Pest Control” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Alameda Park Masonic Shelter, 184 Alameda Park Road.

Participants will learn the safest ways to protect highly susceptible apple trees without using pesticides.

This will be the first of a four-part spring gardening series taught by Butler County Master Gardeners.

[naviga:h3]Queen contest slated April 28[/naviga:h3]

NORTH WASHINGTON — The 2018 North Washington Rodeo Queen Contest will be at 10 a.m. April 28 at the Rodeo Grounds on Oneida Valley Road in North Washington.

The Rodeo Queen will promote the rodeo in and around Butler County in the months before the rodeo.

The North Washington Rodeo will be Aug. 14 through Aug. 18 at the North Washington Rodeo Grounds on Route 38, north of Butler. For more information about the North Washington Rodeo, visit www.nwvfd.com/rodeo.

[naviga:h3]Paranormal meeting April 28[/naviga:h3]

LYNDORA — The Butler Organization for Research of the Unexplained and Center for Unexplained Events will host the 11th annual Butler Paranormal Conference from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 28 at the Tanglewood Center, 10 Austin Ave.

There will be multimedia displays, book signings, vendor booths, raffles, raffle baskets and door prizes. A concession stand will offer food and beverages.

The speakers program will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will include Patty Wilson presenting “Paranormal Forensics” and Leah Madden presenting “Vampires.” There will be photo opportunities with the Men in Black, John and Tim Frick.
