County makes Pa. top 10 in study of paychecks

Butler County is in the top 10 most paycheck-friendly places in Pennsylvania.

According to the financial technology company SmartAsset, the county comes in sixth in a paycheck calculation project.

SmartAsset looked at take-home pay in semimonthly paychecks, purchasing power, unemployment rate and income growth to calculate the most paycheck friendly counties.

The lowest withholding burden in the state's 67 counties was indexed by SmartAsset.

Next, a purchasing power index was created to reflect the highest ratio of household income to cost of living coupled with the unemployment rate for each county.

The study then calculated the annual growth in median income over five years for each county.

Those criteria were then calculated to come up with each county's paycheck friendliness score.

In Butler County, the semi-monthly paycheck averaged $1,667. Among the top 10 counties, Butler was one of three that scored 2 percent or higher in income growth.

The top three paycheck-friendly counties were Chester, Montgomery and Bucks.
