[naviga:h3]SV grads honored as All-AMCC picks[/naviga:h3]

ERIE — Seneca Valley graduates Tyler Herrmann and Anthony Sprentz, junior men’s volleyball players at Penn State Behrend, have been selected second team All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

Herrmann, a co-captain, was fourth in the AMCC with 2.62 kills per set and fifth in the league with 3.0 points per set. Sprentz led the AMCC with 8.49 assists per set.

[naviga:h3]Young, Petruska join Alle-Kiski HOF[/naviga:h3]

NEW KENSINGTON — Former Freeport running back Charles “Chip” Young and Mars girls basketball coach Dana Petruska will be among the 2018 Alle-Kiski Valley Sports Hall of Fame induction class May 19.

The two will be inducted during the HOF banquet at 7 p.m. that night at the New Kensington Quality Inn.

Young helped lead Freepoprt to its first WPIAL football title game in 1963. He was first team All-WPIAL that year and went on to excel as a defensive back and punt returner at William & Mary.

Petruska led the Planets to the PIAA girls basketball title this year and has 439 career wins.

The state championship Freeport High School girls volleyball team, Freeport graduate Diane Geist — who guided Knoch volleyball to the state crown — will also be honored, as will Freeport’s Austin Kemp for football, Kaylee Comperatore for soccer and Ben Beale for basketball.

[naviga:h3]Pitt women’s hoops hires new coach[/naviga:h3]

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh has hired longtime Florida State assistant coach Lance White to lead its women’s basketball program.

White replaces Suzie McConnell-Serio, who was fired earlier this month after the five seasons.
