Butler High School’s Ed Hartman creates excitement April 21, 1978, when he comes from behind to finish first in the 2-mile relay at the Butler Invitational track event. He finished at 8 minutes, 21 seconds flat, 0.3 of a second ahead of Freeport runner Bill Affrica. Hartman’s finish here plus wins in the open mile and 880 earned him MVP honors.
