Borghol homer leads Freeport

Yellowjacket softball downs Deer Lakes

Maya Borghol homered and Ashleigh Schmidt picked up a win in relief as the Freeport softball team remained unbeaten with a 10-4 victory over Deer Lakes Friday afternoon.

Tori Radvan had three hits and Emily Schmidt drove in four for the Yellowjackets (5-0, 4-0).

Ashleigh Schmidt also had a double and two singles in the winning effort.

Slippery Rock 12, Sharon 0 — Cheyenne Hindman struck out 11 in five innings and also had three doubles as the Rockets routed the Tigers.

Macy McCall, Julianna Hutchinson and Madelyn Senge also doubled for Slippery Rock (1-3).

Mars 2, Hampton 1 — Hampton tallied 13 hits, but Mars' pitching duo of Lindy Lee and Kali Harris limited the Talbots to just the one run.

Lee pitched four scoreless innings to start the game. Harris entered with the contest scoreless in the top of the fifth and earned the win after striking out three and walking none.

The Planets tallied both of their runs in the bottom of the fifth. Hampton's run came in the top of the seventh.

Izzy Berkopec singled and doubled and Harris doubled for Mars (4-3, 2-0).

Baseball

Anthony Michalski had a pair of hits, but Mars suffered its first section loss of the season, falling 4-1 to North Hills.

Both Freeport teams improved to 5-0 with victories over Apollo-Ridge. The boys downed the Vikings 117-33 and the girls prevailed 89-57.

Eliza Drohan scored five goals as Butler outlasted Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic, 13-12, Friday.

Katie Quinlan added three goals for the Golden Tornado while Chloe Wertz and Karolyn Miller two each. Haley Kansas scored one goal.
