District 10 hands out honors

McDermott
SR's McDermott named region player of year

Slippery Rock High junior Emma McDermott was named District 10 Region 5 Player of the Year.

McDermott averaged 13.7 points and drained 61 3-pointers for the district champion Rockets this season.

Freshman point guard Anna Kadlubek joined McDermott on the region first team.

Senior Macy McCall and freshman Hallie Raabe were second-team selections.

Isaac Thrasher was a first-team all Region-5 selection for Grove City on the boys side.

Brayden Martin earned a spot on the second team for the Eagles.

SwimmingGrove City senior Ben McKnight and junior Emma Wilson have been named District 10 Region 1 boys and girls Swimmer of the Year, respectively.McKnight joined Charlie Nesbit, Will Rastatter and Will Hannon in making first team in the 200-yard medley relay and free relay. He made second team in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle.Wilson joined Nancy Wise, Amanda Kengor and Aleana Smiley in making first team on the 200 medley relay. Sje joined Smiley, Robin Reynolds and Jenny Baglia on the first team 200 free relay. Wilson was also first team in the 50 and 100 freestyle.Grove City's boys shared the Region 1 title with Titusville while the GC girls won the team crown outright.Other first team Eagle swimmers on the boys side were Nesbit in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, Rastatter in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.Slippery Rock's Trent Donaldson made second team in the 100 butterfly and Heston Suorsa was second team in the 100 backstroke.On the girls side, Grove City's Wise made first team in the 100 breaststroke and the Eagles' 400 free relay team of Addie and Robin Reynolds, Baglia and Smiley were honored.Slippery Rock's Taylor Shaner made second team in the 100 backstroke, Barbie Cessar in the 100 breaststroke.

WrestlingSlippery Rock had four — Mike Doerflinger at 145 pounds, Vito Pilosi at 170, Kaleb Kamerer at 182 and Elijah Hilliard at 195 — make first team. Nick Ayers made second team at 106.Grove City's Logan Breese at 126, Tyler Greer at 160 and Brad Cavolo at 170 made second team.
