Man dragged during domestic dispute, left in critical condition

Cranberry Township police arrested a woman Friday following a domestic dispute that left her boyfriend hospitalized with critical injuries.

Neither person's name was available Saturday, but police said the man was hanging on to a vehicle the woman was driving on Cross Creek Road for nearly a half mile before he fell off and was injured at 4:30 p.m.

“This went on for about 2,800 feet,” said Sgt. Chuck Mascellino. “He underwent surgery last night at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was critical. We're waiting to see what his prognosis is going to be.”

The woman was lodged in the Butler County Prison on charges including aggravated assault by vehicle, reckless endangering another person, driving under the influence and a number of traffic violations, he said.

Additional charges could be filed depending on the condition of the victim, Mascellino said.

He said both people are in the their late 20s.

Witnesses told officers the windows of the vehicle were up with the man hanging on, he said.

He was flown the hospital in Pittsburgh after the incident, according to Butler County Emergency Services.

The township fire department and emergency medical service also responded.
