SR booster president accused of stealing

39 checks, other items taken worth $12,517

Police are accusing a former president of the Slippery Rock High School boys basketball boosters of stealing thousands of dollars from the organization.

Police on Thursday obtained an arrest warrant for Roberta Prementine, 45, of West Liberty.

Prementine is accused of keeping 39 checks and other items totaling $12,517 that belonged to the boosters, according to a criminal affidavit.

She served as president and treasurer of the boosters from September 2016 to January of this year. During that time she was a check signer for the organization's bank account, according to the affidavit.

The balance of the boosters' account was $11,691 when she became a check signer and was $964 when she was removed, according to police. She allegedly was also in possession of $920 in gift cards and jewelry during a calendar fundraiser for the 2017-18 basketball season.

Police say Prementine was contacted about the missing money on March 6. She allegedly agreed to come to the barracks last week to provide documentation of the money, but canceled the appointment and has avoided contact with police since then, according to the affidavit.

Randy Armagost, boys basketball coach, declined to comment on the investigation Thursday.

The boosters contribute to the program by providing clothing, meals for players after away games, expenses related to tournaments and summer leagues and expenses for the end-of-year banquet.

Prementine faces felony theft by unlawful taking, felony receiving stolen property, felony theft by failure to make required disposition of funds and misdemeanor tampering with evidence charges.

Charges were filed at district court in Slippery Rock. She had not been arrested and arraigned as of press time.
