[naviga:h3]PIAA semifinals moved to Thursday[/naviga:h3]

PIAA Class 5A and 4A girls basketball semifinal games slated for Tuesday night at Bald Eagle Area High School have been moved to Thursday.

Mars will face Archbishop Carroll in the 5A semifinals at 5 p.m., followed by Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic taking on Berks Catholic at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for students and are available at Mars High School from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. No student tickets will be available at the door.

[naviga:h3]SRU's Porterfield region hitter of week[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior catcher Christian Porterfield has been named Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week.

In five games, Porterfield hit .545 (12-for-22) with nine runs scored, six RBI and two home runs. He went 5-for-5 with a home run against defending national champion West Chester during that streak.

[naviga:h3]SRU field hockey sports highest GPA[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University field hockey team recorded the highest cumulative grade point average in all of NCAA Division II to earn the 2017-18 National Academic Team Award.

SRU had a cumulative 3.71 GPA after the fall semester, highest in program history. The team won 10 games and qualified for the PSAC Tournament.
