Cranberry coffee firm acquires Crazy Mocha Coffee Co.

CRANBERRY TWP — Ed's Beans, a Cranberry-based parent company of coffee roaster and distributor Kiva Han, has acquired Crazy Mocha Coffee Company and its 29 coffeehouses.

“We're excited about what this means for Crazy Mocha customers,” said Ed Wethli, founder of Ed's Beans, in a news release. “We visit farms all over the world looking for the best coffee, building relationships with farmers and workers that allow us to spot trends. As one company, we can bring new harvests to customers much faster than we could as a traditional wholesaler.”

Crazy Mocha's coffee shops will continue to operate under the same name.

“I'm grateful to our customers for making Crazy Mocha successful,” said Ken Zeff, founder of Crazy Mocha. “We'll continue to actively participate in the neighborhoods we serve.”

Zeff will transition into his new role as director of retail operations.

Kiva Han has been Crazy Mocha's exclusive supplier since 2007, roasting its beans out of a facility in Cranberry Township.

In the short term, the company said to expect a new emphasis on telling the stories of the people and places that bring Crazy Mocha customers their coffee.

“Our coffee comes from some of the most interesting places in the world,” Wethli said. “I'm eager to bring those people and places into our Crazy Mocha locations, so that our customers can get to know them, too.”

The iconic Crazy Mocha goat may also experience some alterations, the release said, though the company offered no specifics about that.

Zeff bought the original Crazy Mocha location in 2000, back when it was the Dancing Goats coffee shop. Zeff changed the name but kept the goat, which hearkens back to the legend of dancing goats leading to the discovery of coffee.
