11:39 p.m. Tuesday — Donald J. Campbell, 34, of Butler Township was allegedly caught with drug contraband stemming from a suspicious vehicle call in the 200 block of College Street.

Police said when they got there they saw Campbell walking away from his pickup truck. In plain view in the truck, according to court documents, were two empty stamp bags of suspected heroin.

Campbell is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and displaying an illegal license plate.

Tuesday — Sarah S. Schoeffel, 38, of New Castle was caught with suspected crack cocaine and other contraband stemming from calls earlier this month and in February for drug activity at a home on the 400 block of West Penn Street.

An officer said as he got to the house shortly after 12:30 p.m. March 3, he heard a rear door shut and saw Schoeffel carrying a shopping bag. Police learned she was already wanted on an arrest warrant, court documents said.

Schoeffel was arrested and searched. Police said they found two rocks of crack in one of her jacket pockets. Among the contraband in the shopping bag, documents said, was a crack pipe, a loaded syringe, two spoons and Chore Boy copper scrubber.

Police said they also turned up another crack pipe in her bra.

Schoeffel is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia

7:16 p.m. Monday — Ronald A. Pfirrman, 46, of Butler was found with a suspected marijuana pipe after he was spotted staggering on East Jefferson Street at Franklin Street.

Police said they believed Pfirrman was intoxicated and that he was a danger to himself. He was arrested and searched. In one of his pockets, documents said, was a metal drug-smoking pipe with suspected marijuana residue.

He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.

9:11 p.m. March 9 — Joseph P. Gaiser, 31, of Butler was caught with suspected crack cocaine and other contraband after he was arrested on a bench warrant in the 500 block of South Main Street.

Police said they saw Gaiser in a sport utility vehicle under the South Main Street bridge. They ran his information and learned he was wanted on a warrant. He was subsequently searched and found with the alleged crack and crack pipe.

He is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

9:05 a.m. Thursday — A student was caught with unspecified drugs and other contraband at Butler High School. The 15-year-old, who police did not identify, is charged in Butler County juvenile court with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

March 8 — Police charged Karen H. Kovalchick, 64, of Butler with drunken driving stemming from a two-vehicle wreck last month at Meridian Road and Route 68.

Police said the crash happened about 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27, when Kovalchick made a right turn from Route 68 into oncoming traffic on Meridian Road and struck a vehicle head-on.

The other driver, Charles Huber, 59, of Gibsonia, was evaluated for injuries at the scene.

Kovalchick, who apparently was not injured, was taken for a breath test that showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.165 percent, more than twice the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.

She is charged with driving under the influence, careless driving and making an improper right turn.

March 8 — Charles Young, 41, of Saxonburg was charged in connection with a shoplifting incident last month at the Butler Crossing shopping plaza. Police said he walked out of the Kohl’s store about 6:15 p.m. Feb. 22 with $105 in unpaid merchandise.

Young is charged with a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property and a summary count of retail theft.

9:45 p.m. Wednesday — Adam P. Bell, 37, of Chicora was hurt when he drove his car on railroad tracks on Hooker Road at South Street in Fairview Township. Police said he traveled about 300 feet along the tracks before his vehicle stopped on the tracks.

Bell started to back up on the gravel berm but his car got stuck in a ditch. He was not wearing a seat belt and suffered an apparent minor injury. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.

Police said Bell faces a ticket for disregarding traffic lanes.

Tuesday — Emily S. Cirelli, 30, of Butler was charged with being more than twice the state’s legal limit for alcohol stemming from a traffic stop last month in Butler. She was pulled over about 12:40 a.m. Feb. 26 on West Cunningham Street because her vehicle registration was expired.

She failed one field sobriety test, police said, but refused to follow directions for other field tests. “Cirelli related she took medication to calm her nerves while flying on a plane earlier that evening,” according to court documents.

The defendant was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which found her blood-alcohol level was 0.161 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

Cirelli is charged with driving under the influence and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Wednesday — A South Carolina man was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop last month in Butler. Police said they stopped Thomas L. Rockenstein Jr., 44, of North Charleston about 11:50 p.m. March 8 for a pair of traffic violations at North Monroe and East Jefferson streets.

Rockenstein admitted that he was coming from a nearby bar and had four or five beers, according to court documents. He failed field sobriety testing and was taken for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.128 percent.

In addition to DUI, he is charged with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance, driving on the wrong side of the road and careless driving.

March 5 — Two Wexford men were charged with having marijuana and other contraband in connection with a traffic stop last month in Buffalo Township. The defendants’ car was pulled over about 9:25 p.m. for having a burned out headlight on Route 28 north.

Police identified the driver, 20-year-old Nicholas O. Welch and his passenger, 19-year-old Zackary M. Nuzum.

A trooper searched the car after smelling marijuana coming from it, according to court documents. Seized in the search was a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, and empty blunt wrappers and a sandwich bag with what appeared to be marijuana residue.

Welch and Nuzum are both charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

4:21 a.m. March 11 — Two North Apollo residents were charged with harassment after a domestic incident on Center Avenue in the borough.

Police say a 59-year-old woman took a swing at a 23-year-old man with whom she was having an argument. The man then grabbed the woman by the arms and escorted her out of the room.

3:15 a.m. March 11 — Police pulled over a 23-year-old Kittanning man who allegedly committed a traffic violation on Maple Drive in East Franklin Township, Armstrong County. The driver was placed under arrest under suspicion of driving under the influence. He will be charged pending the results of a blood test, police said.

12:24 p.m. March 10 — Police are investigating an incident on Route 28 in Frazer Township, Allegheny County.

An unknown vehicle driving southbound braked suddenly causing a car driven southbound by Corrin M. Eckman, 37 of Yatesboro, Armstrong County to drive on the left shoulder and spin out, coming to a rest facing east.

12:53 p.m. March 10 — Brandon M. Brendlinger, 28, of Indiana was cited for his role in a crash on Powers Cross Road in Cowanshannock Township.

Police say Brendlinger went off the road while attempting to negotiate a left curve, hitting a Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Mariah L. Webb, 19, of Dayton, Pa., in the 1 o’clock position, according to police. Webb was not transported by ambulance, but had a minor injury.

7:52 p.m. March 8 — Police are investigating a criminal mischief incident at the Twin Pines bar in Rayburn Township.

Police say two men entered the bathroom of the bar for an extended period. When the door was forced open, a male suspect was found on the floor and the toilet seat and toilet paper holder were broken. Both men fled the scene before troopers arrived.
