Butler Floor and Carpeting OK'd to build warehouse

CENTER TWP — A township flooring business is planning to build a warehouse and expand its operations.

The township supervisors Wednesday voted to give final land development approval to Butler Floor and Carpeting, which gives the company permission to build a 15,000-square-foot warehouse.

The building is planned for a 25-acre property on Route 8 near the intersection with Pine Drive. It is about a half-mile from their existing location on Route 8 near the intersection of Mercer Road. The property is zoned for commercial use.

Butler Floor and Carpeting is a third-generation family business that has served the Butler area for 67 years. It is owned by sister and brother Julie Czifra and Tim Croft.

Recent development in the Butler area has helped the business grow, Czifra said.

“We have seen substantial growth in the commercial sector and our warehouse space is not big enough anymore,” she said.

They were contracted to install flooring at the Abie Abraham VA Health Care Center on North Duffy Road and anticipate business at more health care facilities in the area, she said.

The warehouse will be used for commercial business and offices, while the showroom on Route 8 will remain for residential customers. Their storage space will triple when it is finished, Czifra said.

There is a vacant building on the property that was formerly used as offices for an attorney. Czifra said the building will not be torn down, but the company is unsure what will be done with it.

The plans discussed by the supervisors Wednesday included a note from the state Department of Transportation asking the developer to remove the passing zone on Route 8 in front of the property.

The developer will also add three stormwater retention ponds to the property.

The motion was passed 3-0 with supervisor Phil Wulff abstaining because he is involved in the project. Alan Smallwood was absent.
