A Butler student is being investigated by police Monday after allegedly talking about a school shooting on the school bus.

“This afternoon a student who attends Center Avenue School allegedly made a disturbing verbal statement that he was going to 'shoot up' the school and asked if anybody wanted to join him,” Superintendent Brian White wrote in a letter to parents.

The student, a minor who the school district is not identifying, was riding the bus home from the school when he allegedly made the statement, White said in an interview.

The bus was in the city of Butler at the time and the city police will conduct an investigation, White said.

The student was suspended pending a disciplinary hearing with the school board and classes will not be affected, he said.
