[naviga:h3]Township offers free detectors[/naviga:h3]

BUTLER TWP — Some Butler Township residents are eligible for free smoke detectors and combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. They will be distributed for residences where children reside or frequently visit.

Residents can receive two smoke detectors or one combination smoke and carbon monoxide detector per household.

The devices are available at the main reception area of the Butler Township Municipal Building, 290 S. Duffy Road. Proof of residency is required.

Butler Township purchased the devices through a Hodge Fund Grant.

[naviga:h3]Students’ sale will benefit shelters[/naviga:h3]

CHICORA — Two Karns City High School students will stage a sale next month to benefit local animal shelters.

Seniors Alyssa Haid and Haley Scherer will sell baked goods and pet-themed wooden creations from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. March 17 next to Twisted Scissors, 101 S. Main St.

The students also will accept monetary donations and donations of cat and dog food, blankets, beds, treats, collars, leashes or other items for pets.

Notices of local upcoming news should be received by the Community Department one week in advance of the event. Entries should include the name and phone number of the person providing the information and be sent to: P.O. Box 271, Butler, PA 16003, or community@butlereagle.com.
