Bomb threat closes down Karns City Junior Senior High School

A bomb threat Tuesday at Karns City Junior Senior High School was found to be a hoax, but not until after all 730 students and 80 employees were sent home at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

A student found the threat written on a wall of a bathroom stall in the high school portion of the building and reported to the high school office around noon touching off the evacuation and response by state police, said Superintendent Eric Ritzert.

Police found no evidence of a bomb and believe the threat was a hoax, but are investigating the threat that was likely made by a student, he said.

“It's our intent to find out who did this and we will seek prosecution to fullest extent the law permits. It's an ongoing investigation,” Ritzert said.
