Butler bowlers 3rd in WPIBL team tourney

Butler wound up third overall in the 18-team Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League team championships Wednesday at Wildlife Lanes in Lower Burrell.

The Golden Tornado lost to eventual champion Franklin Regional in the semifinals. The Panthers defeated Norwin in the championship match.

Butler's team total was 2,651. Jordan Reges had a high game of 255 and a 588 series. Chris Huff had a 201 game and 531 series.

Trey Barto rolled a 202 game for the Golden Tornado. Zac Twentier had a 183-529 and Cole Thrash a 194-512.

The WPIBL's girls team championships will take place Thursday at Family Bowlaway.

Girls Basketball

Emily Hegedus scored 27 points and Livia Andreassi added 16 — including three treys — as Karns City closed the regular season Wednesday night with a 60-17 win at Clarion Limestone.

The Gremlins (11-10) will play Moniteau in the first round of the District 9 playoffs next week.

Boys Basketball

Dalton Callender scored 24 points, tallied seven assists and had five steals as A-C Valley won its final home game of the season, defeating Forest Area 96-62 on Senior Night.

Senior Jeff Ginn had 11 points, 13 rebounds and four assists while fellow senior Brendan Price had 14 points, four steals and five assists. Levi Orton scored 15 points and Russ Carr compiled 14 points, 12 assists and five steals.
