Shoplifter accused of hitting same store five times in a row

BUTLER TWP — A nine-time convicted shoplifter was arrested for the same crime — this time for allegedly taking merchandise from the same store on five different occasions in less than a week, authorities said.

Sandra Lee Chesmer, 67, was arrested Thursday on five felony counts of retail theft.

Chesmer is accused of targeting the Hallmark store at the Butler Commons shopping plaza between Jan. 30 and Feb. 5, according to court documents, during which she took off with $952.69 in assorted items.

The store manager on Feb. 6 notified police after a review of surveillance video showed the same woman, later identified as the defendant, taking goods and wares Jan. 30 and 31 and Feb. 1, 3 and 5.

Police allege Chesmer took a mishmash of merchandise that included charms, jewelry, cologne, air fresheners, clothing, candy, greeting cards and decorative eggs.
